The more I explore Yahoo as an alternative to Google the more I realize Yahoo has so many features that are really cool. This is just my top 25 Yahoo things I love, but they have many more then this. Visit http://docs.yahoo.com/docs/family/more/ for a list of almost everything Yahoo has to offer.
#1 - Yahoo! Pets ( http://pets.yahoo.com/pets/ ) Whether you just want to learn more about your pet or to buy one a great portal for your pet needs.
#2 - Yahoo! Astrology ( http://astrology.yahoo.com/astrology/ ) Whether you believe in the astrology readings or not it is fun to check out who you were in your past life isn’t it?
#3 - My Yahoo! ( http://my.yahoo.com/ ) My Yahoo! really lets you customize a web page / portal that meets your needs. From adding RSS feeds to all of Yahoo! services on a single page. The customization and vast resources is great. Not to mention you can make multiple pages, set colors, # of columns and more. It is now my home page on all computers.
#4 - Yahoo! Hotjobs ( http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/ ) Not the only resource of jobs (also use www.monster.com ) but definitely one anyone looking to find employees or find a job should be listed here.
#5 - Yahoo! 360o ( http://360.yahoo.com/ ) Yahoo! loves to let you have personalized pages and 360 is now your way of making a custom portal that other users can use. So when you make a portal the URL is unique to you like http://360.yahoo.com/yournickname. You can also make this your home page if you want.
#6 - Yahoo! Answers ( http://answers.yahoo.com/ ) I decided to try this for a semi-technical question I had and couldn’t find on Yahoo!, or Google or MSN. I had my answer in < 1 hour. But wait, there is more. You continue to get answers and after 24 hours you're allowed to pick the best answer and now the social database has this stored for future searchers. I like it, it's a varied twist on a social network like http://del.icio.us/ .
#7 - Yahoo! Sports ( http://sports.yahoo.com/ ) You fantasy players will love this site. I actually find myself always referring to Yahoo! Sports when I was with CBS sports line. They have great input from many fantasy sites and it is the best fantasy reference I know of that is free.
#8 - Yahoo! Photos ( http://photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos ) Yahoo! Photos makes creating photo albums a snap. Want to make a calendar using your kid’s photos to send to the grandparents? Easy to do and a great gift.
#9 - Yahoo! Finance ( http://finance.yahoo.com/ ) The definitive source for your financial needs with 30+ million users daily it is the king of free financial news and information. It is so successful Google decided to launch their version ( http://finance.google.com ).
#10 - Yahoo! Games ( http://games.yahoo.com/ ) It is absolutely amazing how many games you can find here if you’re looking for fun short games (This is no Oblivion or World of warcraft) then its a great place to get your games.
#11 - Yahoo! (video) Games ( http://videogames.yahoo.com/ ) Do not confuse Yahoo! games site with their Video site. The video site has all your game cheat needs, top video games, and demos for all the latest and hottest video games. Very cool with information for all platforms.
#12 - Yahoo! Groups ( http://groups.yahoo.com/ ) One of Yahoo!’s most popular destinations it is still the place to go for meeting people with similar interests to yours. Join the groups your interested in and your on your way to a more social world.
#13 - Yahoo! Podcasts ( http://podcasts.yahoo.com/ ) Podcasts are extremely popular now and the latest fad. Yahoo! Podcasts connects you to this vast world. It is designed to help you get the podcasts you want and get it now.
#14 - Yahoo! Music ( http://music.yahoo.com/ ) Yahoo!’s LAUNCHcast lets you create your own personalized radio station for free. LAUNCHcast ratings help it learn what you like and play the music you want to here and the more your rate the better it gets.
#15 - Yahoo! Messenger with Voice ( http://messenger.yahoo.com/ ) Yahoo! Messengers lets you make free international calls. Messenger has many other features and integrates with Yahoo! 360 (#5 on this list). Let us not forget it’s just a better “AIM”.
#16 - Yahoo! Personals ( http://personals.yahoo.com/ ) While I am married and thus won’t use this service, many of you can. Yahoo! seems to do a good job of helping people screen and remove abuse, a big problem with some personal sites.
#17 - Yahoo! Movies ( http://movies.yahoo.com/ ) I use this service all the time from their critic’s reviews to the Yahoo! Users reviews. I tend to agree more with the users then the critics, but isn’t that usually true for you too? Yahoo! Movies is a great place to go for movies in your area as well.
#18 - Yahoo! Autos ( http://autos.yahoo.com/ ) Looking for that new or used car? Yahoo! Cars can make that easy and get you a great price. I also really like their ability to custom tailor cars online not to mention their great search engine for autos.
#19 - Yahoo! Widgets ( http://widgets.yahoo.com/ ) Wow! I didn’t know this was here till 2 days ago. Yahoo! Engine can have widgets plug in that help your performance and productivity or widgets for fun and games. It’s all here and you can waste a lot of time exploring. But it’s worth it, try it out I highly recommend it.
#20 - Yahoo! Buzz ( http://buzz.yahoo.com/ ) Great to find the latest buzz whether it be Hollywood or just hot events. Yahoo! Buzz is a very popular Yahoo feature and worth exploring to see if it’s for you.
#21 - Yahoo! Travel ( http://buzz.yahoo.com/ ) We all must travel at some point and Yahoo! Travel finds everything you need from booking your flights to finding attractions at your destination. Yahoo has a Trip Planner feature, try it out and it even supports multi-city trips.
#22 - Yahoo! Mobile ( http://mobile.yahoo.com/ ) Yahoo! is really pushing the Mobile market and this site is the perfect addition to your mobile device, be it a smart phone, nokia or a PDA. This site rocks for mobile add ons. They will find what’s available for your phone or device and this certainly alleviates a big headache for me.
#23 - Yahoo! Avatars ( http://avatars.yahoo.com/ ) I do tend to hang out on some forums and Yahoo! Avatars is the place to make my cartoon self. You can custom design your avatar facial style, hair, eyes, cloths and background.
#24 - Yahooligans! ( http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/ ) I have kids and I worry about them. Let them loose on Yahooligans! as its a great and safe place for 7-13 year olds. I even enjoyed the info they had here so I could get more involved with my kids.
#25 - Yahoo! Mindset ( http://mindset.research.yahoo.com/ ) Mindset let’s you customize the search by helping filter based upon whether you’re trying to find information on that plasma TV or buy that plasma TV. Do a search such as “Plasma TV” and you will have a slider bar that lets you push it far left for shopping or far right for research. Watch the results change as you do this. Very cool and just what *I* need. So I am off to buy my new Plasma TV from Yahoo! Shopping now that I used Mindset to research it!
